Vintage Cookbook Giveaway!

Contest is closed! I will anounce the winner soon!

This week I am giving away a vintage Culinary Arts Institute encyclopedic cookbook from 1962. It is a large (974 pages to be exact) cookbook with many different interesting tips that you do not find in the ordinary modern cookbook. Not only will you find some yummy recipis, but you will also learn how to make your own storage cellar. And of course I am leaving in the various newspaper clipings that were stuck in by the previous owner. That is part of it's charm!

I am giving everyone 3 chances to win! For your first entry please visit my new Etsy shop and let me know what you think that I am doing well, or that I could do better.

For the second entry sign up for my newsletter. You can sign up at the top of my blog above all of the posts.

And for the third chance write a post on your blog, myspace page, etc. about this giveaway, and come back and leave me a second comment letting me know where I can find it.

I will be drawing the winner next Thursday, November 6th at 11 pm. Well that is if I don't fall down with exhaustion before 11 comes. I will announce the winner shortly after. Please make sure that I have your email address so that I may let you know if you win. Anyone can enter. You do not have to have a blog. Good luck!

I'd probably focus on a specific niche of crafting to sell, that would get you a strong, loyal following.

I guess my only suggestion is to keep things coming, and add some more items because it all looks good!

I'm really excited about the cookbook because I love to cook and I love reading old books, so it pretty much combines my two loves!

Marigold said...

What a great giveaway! I've always felt that all the best recipes are at least 40 years old.

As for your shop, it might help to divide your vintage lovelies into different categories, to make browsing your shop just a little but easier. Take care!

Oh old cookbooks are just such a treasure. Just think of all the happy people that book has made serving up homemade love. I adore vintage cook books and would be honored.

I agree with the commenter above; that's the first thing that caught my eye; categorization. Maybe even household, kitchen, clothing, etc... other than that I love the look of the cool blue!

mannequin said...

I subscribed; thanks for inviting me; I'd love to keep in touch.

i'm a big fan of vintage cookbooks! thy are the most simple of all.

As for your shop, i'd try to keep it simple. categorize everything and maybe you can run something like get a free gift with purchase and make it something really simple like a sachet perhaps. people love to think they are getting something 'extra'

I really like your etsy store, especially the great pictures that show lots of detail. I think it's important to clearly show what you are selling. Thanks!

Kate said...

I think the best thing about your etsy shop is all of the variety you offer. Pretty much anyone who visits could find at least one thing they are interested in.

This cookbook sounds great. I love the charm of old cookbooks and often find their recipes to be frugal, simple and delicious. Thanks for the giveaway!

By the way, I would LOVE your input and suggestions. If you want, you can email at asimplewalk AT gmail DOT com.

Lisa said...

Well, first of all, I really like your theme. It's very cute, and I love the concept. Your products more or less reflect that, and it's great. You've already done some advertising by participating in the giveaway, so that's good. However, if possible, and this may be hard on a new store owner, I would 1) increase inventory and 2) organize your products into categories (jewelry, kits, decor). Under 1, I would increase not the amount of products, but the types of products you have. Most of your products are pretty expensive. It may do well to have a few "goodies" earlier on to build a customer base. Hope this helps!

ooooO! i love old books so much. I've just signed up for the newsletter and I'm in your shop right now. I really like that your selling pay dough. its a really clever idea.

I think you could benefit from having a banner that has the same feel as your photos for some extra recognition. Also since its an international site maybe measurements in both inches and cm. and lastly, more items!! a lot of people say they don't start selling regularly until they hit about 50 items in their shop.

your doing really good so far and I wish you well for future sales:)

sunnymum said...

Looks like you have some nice vintage things in your shop. Maybe you could add sections like "children's activities", "vintage," etc. (under "shop setup") to help buyers find what they're looking for more easily.

Esty shop:

Congrats on opening an etsy shop, I have one too!

My thoughts: You could have a more interesting banner, perhaps one that reflects your shop's vintage appeal.

Use all of your photos! A few items that I clicked only had one photo, use each to your advantage.

Anyway, you are off to a great start, and have some neat vintage finds!

I love your Etsy shop...clear pictures of the items, with very descriptive explanations. You're doing a great job! Over 30 years ago, when my kids were little, we would go to yard sales (because I didn't have much money!) I have so many neat things and focused on antique cookbooks, but I don't have the one you are giving away!

I like your etsy shop. I would like to see you add some vintage clothes and vintage luggage.

sito50 said...

You have a nice variety of items and your prices seem reasonable. The only suggestion I could make is to adjust your thumbnails. For instance, the framed ballet prints shows the bottom third of one and the top third of another. They're nice prints, but you can't tell that till you've clicked on an uninteresting thumbnail. Good luck with the shop.

I love the items in your shop. I actually saw some things like I used to own-- or very similar. I would like to see you work on your photography skills so you will be able to show off your wares to the best advantage. Some pictures were too small to see details and some were a bit blurry. Thanks for the opportunity to participate in this giveaway!
